SPINE FRACTURED AT FOOTBALL. William Sharpe, • aged twenty-five, an employee in the State colliery, was seriously injured in the, neck when playing football on Saturday, for Civil Service, at Hokitika. His spinal column was fractured, but hopes of his recovery are entertained. ■ SHOOTING FATALITY. Donald Lourie; aged twenty-seven, who is believed to reside near Taihape, and had been staying at Hanmer, borrowed a shotgun from the unemployment camp at Glynn Wye about 2 p.m. on Sunday to shoot hare. He was found dead at a fence, near the camp With the gun beside him, and a serious wound in the head. He was conveyed to the Taumarunui Hospital still conscious, but died soon after his admission. The deceased was about twentyseven years old. His wife and relatives are believed to live at Whangarei. DEATH FOLLOWS FALL. John Quirk, aged seventy-six, a' farmer of Ward, while inspecting his sheep yesterday fell down a steep slope and broke his leg. He was taken to the hospital, where he died from shock. —Blenheim Press Association. CAR OVER BANK. A motor car driven by Dr B. H.Gilmour, of Lyttelton, ran off the road 1 near Governor’s Bay early yesterday morning, plunged down a bank, and overturned. The doctor was severely; shaken, hut not injured.
