MORE WORK CAMPAIGN

COMMUNITY'S SUPPORT REQUESTED In line with other cities, including Christchurch, Dunedin is establishing a campaign to create wbrk for tradesmen, with the object of having extra work undertaken between now and the end of the year to the value of £50,000. The sponsors have named the plan “ Dunedin More Work Campaign,” and they wish it to be clear that it is not in any way to be confused .with relief work and charity appeals. The principles of the campaign are based on those of the Bristol scheme, which originated in Bristol, England. Influential bodies, such as the City Council, llotary Club, Harbour Board, and others are giving their support—financially and otherwise—to the proposal, which in brief involves the putting in hand of needed (and up to the present neglected) work on houses, shops, and properties. Many people in the position to afford it have hesitated to engage carpenters, upholsterers, paperhangers, and plumbers to do work which must sooner or later become necessary. On the matter of personal things—clothes, boots, and shoes, household comforts, suits, costumes and carpets cleaned,_ and in many other directions —citizens can contribute toward the deserved success of the campaign. In addition to creating more work of a. desirable and profitable nature, the effort will be the meihis of putting into circulation a considerable amount of money, which in turn will benefit everybody concerned. Wholehearted support from every section of the community is essential, and householders are requested to place instructions for the commencement of as much additional work as lies in .their power.
