ST. HILDA BAND RECITAL
A recital of a high order has been prepared by the St.Kiida Baud and assisting artists for Sunday evening. The two outstanding items to be played by the band are the Tone Poem ‘ Maesgarmou ’ by Haydn Morris, and the overture, from the opera ‘ Impressario.’ The ‘ Maesgarmon ’ selection is a particularly difficult work and has required much rehearsal by all members. Several of the movements are very brilliant and severely tax the executive ability of all players in ■ the band.- The overture ‘ Impressario ’ is cleverly arranged for brass'bands and is full of brightness and is certain to prove a popular number. , Mr Rees iVl‘Conachy, New Zealand’s brilliant violinist, will play ‘ The Dance of the Goblins,’ and will be accompanied on the_ piano by Miss C. Colbert. Patrons will welcome the appearance of .Miss Elvira Wycherley an accomplished cellist. Messrs W. ■Smith and J. Marshall will be heard in a horn and trombone duet, ‘ Watchman what of the Night,’ and Mr R. Colvin will play ‘ The Heart of a Rose,’ both of these items being accompanied by the Christie Organ, played by Mr A. Pettitt. Mr E. G. Johnston, a soloTst, who was successful in the recent Dunedin Competitions, will sing ‘ My Ain Wee Hoose,’ and Mr E. Andrews will play a marimba solo ‘ The Parade of the Tin Soldiers.’ Admission will be by silver coin.
