" UNCLE BEN'S " APPEAL The following subscriptions have been received in response to “ Uncle Ben’s ” appeal for a fund to purchase a moving picture machine for the entertainment of children patients in Dunedin Hospital and the inmates of Talboys Home and orphanages, also to provide outings for crippled children and elderly people (subscriptions may be sent to the ‘Star’ Office) Previously acknowledged ... £37 0 0 Alice, Mavis, Mary, J.H., Sirs Young, Smithy, Anon., Help, Is each. “ Uncle Ben,” who conducts a weekly children’s session from 4ZO, is a frequent visitor to the children’s ward at the hospital. He has regularly attended the institution for five years, and by a kiudlv word or act brought happiness to the Subscriptions to the appeal, which has the mayor’s approval, may be handed to the editor of the ‘ Evening Star.’ Even the smallest amounts will be gratefully received.
