KINDERGARTEN ASSOCIATION

COUNCIL MEETING The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Council Was held on Thursday afternoon. The president (Mrs R. A. Ewing) was in the chair, and the following members • were present; —Lady Allen, Lady Sidey, Mesdames Brickell, Cameron, Dykes G. Fitzgerald, Glendining, Halsted, Hudson, Melville, Phillips, E. J. Smith, Taverner, Wright, and Misses Kelsey and Scott. It was stated that the kindergartens had reopened last Tuesday with very largo attendances, the children all being very happy to be back once again. During the month the St. Kilda Local Committee and the Mothers’ Club held a combined jumble sale, tho proceeds amounting to £9, and the Mothers’ Club at Kaikorai held anothed euchre party, which resulted in £7 being raised for that kindergarten. A donation of £ls 2s was received from the Kindergarten Graduates’ Association, and the council was grateful for the evidence of continued interest in the work among the children. Mrs Ewing gave a report on the recent conference at Wellington of the Free Kindegrarten Union of New Zealand. ' Many matters of vital importance to the welfare of the pro-school child had been discussed, and much valuable information gained. Moving pictures of the work done in the kindergartens at Wellington and Auckland had” been shown and had proved very interesting. Miss Dutton reported on the Principals’ Conference, and stated that it had been decided to hold a refresher course for kindergarten garduates next year in Auckland. It was reported that Miss Anita Winkel had offered to stage the play ‘ Madchen in Uniform ’ in aid of kindergarten funds, and this offer had been gratefully accepted. Arrangements were put in hand for holding a “Paddy’s Market ” at the end of September. The following assistance and gifts were reported, and are gratefully accepted Archerfield School, large parcel of toys, etc.; Mrs Holmes, wood and coal; Mr Carr, carpentry work and wooden toy; Mr Taylor, remaking rocking horse; ,Box Factory, carpentry wood; Mr Hopkins., sweeping three chimneys; Messrs ' Paterson, Brown, and Ryan, various jobs about kindergartens. '
