POLICE COURT
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) CHIMNEY FIRES. Harold Booth was fined 5s and coats for allowing a chimney to catch fire. James Grounds was similarly dealt with, and Edward Thompson, a relief worker, was convicted only. UNLAWFULLY ON PREMISES. James Halsweli and John Robert Sanderson, the latter being represented by Mr L. R. Simpson, were charged with being unlawfully on licensed premises. Evidence was given by the license© to the effect that the defendants had booked as boarders. His Worship accepted this explanation and dismissed the charges. UNLICENSED RADIO. George Gabriel A dess was fined 5s and costs for being iu possession of an unlicensed radio set. Mr J. B. Thomson, who represented the defendant, stated that a radio firm had undertaken to renew the license every year, but on this occasion had omitted to do so. The license money had now been paid. MOTOR CASES. James Johnstone, sen., was fined 25s 6d and costs for operating a truck without a heavy traffic license. Anthony H. Thompson, who passed a stationary tramcar on the offside, was fined £1 and costs. William Milne, charged with negligent driving, was fined 30s and court costs (225). George P. Dwyer, who left his car within thirty feet of an intersection, was fined 5s and costs. Albert William Sinclair, who appeared voluntarily, was fined 10s and costs (3s) for driving without the necessary lights Robert Phelan, an unlicensed driver, was fined 5s and costs. Robert Robinson. similarly charged, was convicted without penalty. James Bennie was convicted and discharged for driving a truck without a license, and ordered to pay court costs of 10s for having a defective brake. George Frederick Hanson admitted having exceeded the licensed load on his lorry, loading the lorry further backward than was allowed, and also having an excessive overhang at the front. He was fined £1 and costs on the first charge. A conviction without penalty was entered on the second, and the third was dismissed. Sidney _ Smart, charged with exceeding his licensed truck load, was fined 30s and costs. William Grant Taylor was fined 30s and costs for operating a motor cycle with defective brakes, and convicted and discharged for not having a license and the necessary lights. DELAYED INCOME TAX RETURNS. The Commissioner of Taxes proceeded against Patrick Fraser Howden in respect to a charge of failing to make an income tax return. Mr Wl D. Taylor appeared for the informant, and Mr Bolfe for the defendant. It was stated that the return had now been made. The defendant was fined £3, with court costs 10s, and Crown Solicitors fee £3 3s.
