Claiming that under their present rates of pay they arc suffering undue hardship, the full complement of twenty married men on the Public Worhs camp drainage scheme at Tauhci downed tools this morning and proceeded to Hamilton to meet the officials of the department in an endeavour to secure better conditions. pnlesss their representations arc materially recognised, it is the intention of tho men' to leave the camp permanently and blacklist it as a warning to others. They maintain that they are getting only thirty shillings a week.—Hamilton Press Association. STATEMENT TO COMPANY COMMISSION EXPLAINED. In evidence given by Stanley Grange, sharebroker, before the Royal Commission in Sydney yesterday, it was stated that £750 had paid by one of M‘Arthur’s companies to Mr Y. R. Meredith, Crown solicitor at Auckland. Mr. Meredith’s law partner said to-day that the sum was received by his firm as trust money for the Railways and Land and Income Tax Departments, and had been duly accounted for to those departments.—. CONSTANTINOPLE, September 7.—Shukri Bey, vice-president of the Aeronautical League, states that if Sir Charles Kiugsford Smith and Mr and Mrs Mollison apply through the Embassy, the Turkish Government is certain to give them permission to 11 y over Turkey in the Centenary race.
