WATCHING BOAT RACE
ENTERTAINMENT TAX LONDON, July 19. Entertainment tax is due on receipts from the hire of launches for viewing the University boat race, according'to a decision of a Bow street magistrate The prosecution contended that a boat moored near the winning post was equivalent to a grand stand on a racecourse or a seat at a theatre, and that the boat jace was entertainment as far as the spectators were concerned. The owners of the fleet were fined a nominal amount, and the magistrate agreed to state a case to the High Court.
