TAIERI COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING Cr Chas. Findlay presided at the monthly meeting of. the Taieri County Council, held yesterday. Crs F. G. Brinsden, IV. K. Kirk, G. Stevenson, R. A. Kempshell, T. Carruthcrs, and \V. Nicbol were also present. Cr Gow was absent on account of a bereavement. , Reference was made to the death of Mrs Jaines Gow (mother of Cr James Gow ap'd wife of Mr Jas. Gow. sen., a former councillor), and .a vote of Sympathy with the relatives was passed. FINANCE. The Finance Committee reported that the expenditure for the month of July totalled £1,752 lOs 3d, the receipts had amounted to £1,134 I9s 7d, and the bank book showed a debtor balance of £394 14s.—The report was adopted. REPORTS OF INSPECTORS. The Inspector of Works reported in detail on the .surfacing work of the month, and recommended that the following works be carried oiiti— Otobia riding: That ‘23yds of Silyerfjtreaw gravel bo run otit on the footpath, Fairfield, on the section from the old Brighton roiid to the Post Office. Two building permits bad been granted.— The report was adopted.

Rankin. Saddle Hill, wrote objecting to the reduction of the valuation of his property. . He would prefer to nave the roads maintained in a better coniitioii and maintain the higher valuation,, which would allow the uatura|- resources of the country to be realised.—.Left to the member of the riding and inspector to go into the matter. Mr A. Baxter, chairman of -the Ocean View improvement Society, requested that a few of the relief workers under the county’s _ jurisdiction be transferred to help in the work of clearing the streets leading to the beach in Ocean view. Gorse was overgrowing the streets.—The matter was to be attended to. The Cify Engineer, Dunedin, wrote hi connection with the erection of a pipe crossing at Deep Stream on the Old punstan road, He suggested that a larger structure might be necessary. The City Council wished to knOw if the necessary structure could be erected jointly.—The inspector and the member for the riding were appointed to see to the matter, the council being favourable to the proposal.. 'Mr F, Williams forwarded a plan of an allotment of land which it was proposed to cut from section 60. block VII.. Dunedin and East Taieri district. The council’s approval was required.—The approval of the alteration was given.

MIDDLE-MARCH WATER SUPPLY. The Middlemarch 'voter supply scheme was discussed. The clerk reported on the progress made in connection with it.
