OTAGO HUNT CLUB

MEET AT NORTH TAIER! The paddocks were soft for the meet on Saturday over the properties of Messrs A. Y. Smellie, T. H. Pugh, and W. D. Wright. On arrival at Mr Smellie's property the trail was immediately laid, and at about 3.20 tire huntsman released the pack, which was slow in picking up the scent at the start, but later set off at a fast pace. It worked will and gave the followers something to do to keep up with it. The first jump, a gorse hedge, was well cleared by all; then came a post and rail, which did not cause any trouble. After a gallop over one of Mr Smellif’s paddocks, another gorso hedge'was very well jumped. The followers then jumped a hawthorn hedge, bringing them into Mr Pugh’s property. A good gallop across country then took place to the next jump, a post and rail, which all cleared well. Next came the hawtborne hedge road double, which generally causes the riders a fair amount "of trouble owing to having to jump on . to the road and then take the second jump of the double without getting any run at it, but this double did not cause any trouble. Landing in Mr Wright’s property, another hawthorn hedge was jumped. Then came an open ditch, the run concluding after another hawthorn hedge had been jumped. Considering that the going was very soft and slippery after the recent rain, the,,jumping was exceptionally good, and there was not a fall recorded during the hunt, which was of about three miles.
