TABLE TENNIS NOTES

Results of last week’s matches:— A Grade.—Y.M.C.A. Residents beat Aotea. 22-10; Lands and Survey lost to Y.M.D. 12-20; St. Andrew Street I, beat Railway, 27-5; St. Patrick’s, bye. B Grade.—D.l.C. beat St. Paul’s Anglican (on points), 577 points to 573 points; Grange beat St. Kilda Anglican, 26-6; St Patrick’s 11. beat St. Andrew Street 11., 18-14; D.S.A. I. beat Anglican Harriers, 28-4; D.S.A. 11. lost to Education, 10-22. This season there are eighteen teams in the competition—eight in A grade and ten in B grade. United had entered a team in the A grade, but has since withdrawn, and it was thought there would be a bye in this grade. However, another team has applied for entry, and, although finality has not been reached, it is hoped to have the bye eliminated in this week’s matches. The win of D.I.C. against St, Paul’s Anglican must be one of the closest recorded. D.S.A. T.j one of the, new teams in ihe competition- this year, should be near the top when the season finishes. Its style is good, and will improve as the season advances. Although Grange defeated St. Kilda Anglican—a new team in the competi-tion—-by 26 games to 6, the total of the actual points scored (664 to 404) does not show the defeat in the same light. One of the surprises of the week was the defeat of Pearce (St. Andrew Street) by Strachan (Railway) by 2 games to 0. These games must have been real tussles, for the point scores were 21-18, 22-20. Y.M.C.A. Residents, winners of the conipetition last year, have commenced this season auspiciously by winning their match against Aotea. Messrs Millar and Mollison are to bo congratulated on winning their eight games each.
