74TH ANNUAL MEETING

Mr J. A. Fowler presided over a large attendance of members of the Taieri Agricultural • Society at Outrani last night. Prior to the ordinary business the Chairman referred to-tho death ,of Mrs W. Reid, a member and staunch supporter of tho society. The secretary was instructed to send a letter of sympathy to the relatives. Tho annual report was submitted by the secretary (Mr John Williamson) as follows:

“The committee, in submitting the seventy-third annual report and bal-ance-sheet, records another very satisfactory year for the society. During the year additions were made to ,the sheep pens. Exhibitors have again shown their appreciation of the improvements to the Show Grounds by bringing forward their exhibits in increased numbers, the entries in all sections being a record for the society. The quality, too, 1 was up to the usual high standard. ; /Die ladies also were well to the fore in their display of dairy produce and cookery exhibited, the whole display being a credit to the district. Total entries for all sections, 1,035. The annual show was held on the Show Grounds, Outram. The weather was good and there was a large attendance of the public, and the judging of the various sections passed off expeditiously. The grand parade of prize stock and the jumping competitions were again attractive features of the show. It is gratifying to notice the increased interest shown by members. The annual social, which lias become a popular function, was held in the society’s ball, Outram. There was a full hall, ah excellent programme, and the winners received their trophies with the good wishes of all present, concluding with a very enjoyable dance. The balance-sheet shows a healthy financial position, showing continued support from all quarters. Thanks in this connection are due to all contributors. Special mention should, be made of the generous support accorded by business and commercial circles.”.

The Retiring President, in moving the adoption of- the report, thanked the committee and secretary for the support given to him in his term of office. The following office-bearers were then elected:—President, Mr J. A. Gow; vice-president, Mr J. B. Blair; coml mittee—Messrs James Adam, George T. Bathgate, Melville Bathgate, -John S. Blackie, Albert E. Blair, John L. Findlay, George Ford, James A. Fowler, Robert Gawn, James B. Hamilton, Alexander S. Murray, James C. Renton, and P. J. Ford ; auditor, Mr John Logan; honorary veterinary surgeons, Messrs C. V. Dayus and Thompson. Mr Jas. Walker was elected a life member. The new committee met at the close of the annual meeting, Mr Gow (president) occupying the chair. The Oiitrarn Young Farmers’ Club applied for the use of the hall for meetings.—Granted.

. The Otago Methodist Young Men’s Bible Class Camp Committee, wrote acknowledging the use of the society’s property for the Faster camp, and enclosed I.os as a donation.—Received. A letter was received from the Outram Domain Board in connection with the leasing of the Domain for show purposes.—After a discussion the matter was held over. . . The Defence Office, Dunedin, wrote acknowledging the use of the society’s buildings at the recent camp.-—Re-ceived.

The New Zealand Standards Institution sought information in reply to a sister association in Australia concerning the preparation of standards of grading for pastoral, agricultural, and dairy products, with a view to unifying such standards.—Received. Arrangements were made for the annual ball to he held at the end of July. On Air Murray's motion the secretary was asked to write to Mr William Macltay (South Africa) and thank him for presenting to the sometv a medal which had been won bv Ids father at a' show In the early davs.
