MANY BEAUTIFICATIONS COMPREHENSIVE TOUR BY AMENITIES SOCIETY Following a comprehensive tour of the city the Amenities Society last ni |T ht drew np a list of beautifying schemes for submission to the City Council. It was recommended that a number of shrubs 'should be planted on the corner of Wilkie road and Anderson’s Bay road, practically under the overhead railway bridge. It was decided that the Anderson’s Bay Ratepayers’ Association should ho asked to confer with Mr Tannock reoarding the providing of some protection if the ngaios were replaced in tim playing ground on Anderson’s Bay road. The suggestion made that the St. Clair Improvement Society should he asked to improve the playing ground was agreed to, and also the suggestion that both sides of the road leading to the second beach and adjacent to the salt-water baths should be planted with berberis and cistus. The recommendation made that a tree should be planted on the top of the bank overlooking the High street car line and school was agreed to. It was agreed that the attention of the City Corporation should bo drawn to the lack of attention paid to the memorial in Jubilee Park. It was also agreed that the City Corporation should be asked to form the footpath at the side of the Roslyn tram line from the junction of the Maori Hill car to Queen’s drive. It was decided to recommend to the council to plant llax .and cabbage trees in the swampy portion of Jxjven street, that one or two trees in front of the Scarba street playing area be removed to. provide a better view of the harbour, and that the fence be removed in Tweed street and the depression filled in and made ready for planting. A sub-committee was appointed to interview the residents and obtain their opinions in regard to the recommendation that the council should be asked to replant Royal terrace. It was agreed to ask the council to improve the appearance of the tram waiting shed at Woodhaugh by giving the. building a coat of paint inside and out. it was also agreed that the council should bo asked to carry out various improvements at Logan Park and to plant a shelter belt of trees on the west side of Anzac avenue opposite Logan Park. The formation of a path down the side of the Roslyn tram line from the junction of the Maori Hill car to Queen’s drive near the back of Speight’s was recommended. It was suggested to the University Council that two pohntakawa trees should be planted on the bank at the side of the University administration block. In regard to an old willow tree in the University grounds, it was agreed that the University authorities should be. asked to have this removed. That Virginia creeper should he planted up the walls of the University buildings was another recommendation, and the University Council is to he asked to reinstate the memorial walk. Instead of going round the professors’ houses, however, it should boar to the '■right to the kitchen garden and Leith street. The removal of the caretaker’s kitchen garden to another site is also to bo recommended to the University authorities.
