MUSIC TEACHERS

EXECUTIVE MEETING The quarterly meeting of the Music Teachers’ Executive was attended by Mr Charles Martin (president, in the chair), Misses 'Eavell, Yorston, Mrs Mason, Messrs Galway, Scherek, and Riddle (secretary). It had been deemed advisable to change the selections for pianoforte solo (sections 1-1-16 and 16-18) for the forthcoming competitions festival. The circular received by members regarding a proposed ‘ Who’s Who ’ was considered. The circular invited teachers to forward an account of their training, education, capabilities, etc., for publication in terms of subscriptions outlined in the circular-. It was felt that this was purely an advertising medium and not a true ‘Who’s M ho, and that it would be unprofessional conduct .for members to comply with the request. Members expressed the hope that it might be possible to continue holding concerts in connection with the annual conference in a similar manner to those inaugurated by the Otago branch at the conference held in Dunedin last May. It was difficult to arrange a suitable date. January interfered with the Christmas vacation. Especially was this so if concerts were to be held, as those taking part had to keep in continuous practice during the holidays, while if the conference was held in May it was not convenient for those teachers who did not give term holidays. It was decided to try and have notification of the next conference (if held in January) sent to the branches earlier than usual, so that members might try and arrange their vacations in the centre where the conference was being held.
