[Special to the ‘ Star.’]

At the Oamaru Trotting Club’s Meeting the INVITATION MATCH RACE, 300sors. lim, resulted: 1— Mr E. E. C. Hind’s b g HA.ROLD LOGAN, by Logan Pointer— Ivy Cole, aged (M. Holmes) 1 3 Mrs M. Harrall’s ch h Red Shadow, by Travis Axworthy —Our Aggie, 6yrs (J. Bryce) 2 4 Mr L. S. Martin’s b h Walla Walla, by Globe Derby— Princess Winona, aged (W. M'Kay) 3 2 Mr P. Brown’s Roi I’Or, aged (F. Holmes) 4 Times: 2min 43sec, 2min 43 3-ssec, 2min 44sec. There was great excitement when the four competitors for the match race paraded in the birdcage. Harold Logan was a warm favourite, the other three being evenly backed. All appeared to have come through a solid preparation, and neither Harold Logan nor Walla Walla appeared to have suffered any ill effects as the result of their efforts in Dunedin. All four horses were standing flat footed when the word “ go ” was given, and Harold Logan, at once took up the running from Walla Walla. Roi I’Or and Red Shadow in that order. With half a mile covered Roi I’Or ranged alongside Walla Walla in second place, while Red Shadow tailed the field. There was .practically no alteration during the next round, and at the straight entrance Harold Logan was still pacing along merrily in front two lengths ahead of Walla Walla and Roi I’Or, who Were on terms, while Red Shadow commenced a fast run. The latter made up a good bit of ground, but Harold Logan was not pressed to win by a length and a-half from Red Shadow, .who was two lengths in front of Walla Walla and Roi I’Or, who had a ding-dong go for third place. . Harold Logan gave his usual finished exhibition of pacing, and this time therc_ was no question as to his superiority over the others. He won comfortably, if not easily, although the time’was not fast for champion pacers. Red Shadow pleased by the manner . of his'finish and this was his best race ■of the series,, but Walla Walla disappointed. rather badly, and appears to .have had enough of racing for the pre;sent, Roi I’Or had every chance, but just failed to head the Australian in a hectic finish. Harold Logan received a great ovation on his return to the scales, and loud cheers were called for each of the starters. • It was .a . race between champions, with an outstanding champion in Harold Logan a decisive winner.
