MONTHLY SOCIAL The monthly meeting of the Scottish Society of Dunedin was held in Victoria Hall on Saturday evening, and was well patronised by members and friends. The president (Mr (Jeorge Munro) and die chairman (Mr W. P. Smith) wero piped to the platform by the official piper (Mr Norman MacPherson). The President, in extending a welcome to the visitors, expressed pleasure at the visit of representatives from the Burns Club, the Dunedin Highland Pipe Band, and a member of the crow of the Bear of Oakland, and later in the evening, on behalf of the members of the society, made reference to the departure of Mrs Hoy, of North-east Valley, for the Homeland., He hoped, ho said, that she would find her native heath, Elgin, a haven of plenty. A special welcome was tendered to the society’s patron (Mr J. M'Donald). Mr W. Matheson assisted during the evening with piping items, and Mr Angus MacMillan played for the dancers. The sailors’ hornpipe was given in true nautical style by Mr H. Mark, who later danced the fling. The scan triubhais was danced by Miss Margaret, MacMillan, n Highland reel by Misses' M. MacMillan, N. Matheson,' A. Hamsay, and L. Ross, the hornpipe by Master Plett, whilst the combined Highland dancers rendered the Highland fling. The., fine musical _ programme presented was much enjoyed, and the following took part:—Mrs Sproull (Saddle Hill), ‘The Saft Lowland Tongue o’ the Border ’ and 1 Maggie. Lander ’ ; Mr Stevenson, jltn. (Orkney and Shetland), ‘ Loch Lomond and You ’ and ‘ Young Tom o’ Devon ’ Air Murray Hood, 1 The Battle o’ Stirling ’ and ‘ Scots Wha’ Hae.’ Supper was served by the Ladies’. Social Committee, .with ATrs Duff as convener,, and the duties of ALC.’s were faithfully discharged by Messrs P, Duff and J. T. Ramsay,
