TECHNICAL SCHOOL TEACHERS
CONFERENCE CONCLUDED [Pb» United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, May 10. The Technical Schools Teachers’ Conference to-day adopted remits in regard to the control of examinations and school certificates and in regard to the subject of English in the university entrance and school certificate examinations. . The election of officers resulted as follows :—President, Mr Keys (Christchurch) ; vice-presidents—Miss Anderson (Westport), Messrs James (Wellington), and Scott (Auckland); secretary, treasurer, and editor, Mr Evans (Wellington) ; executive Messrs Thompson (Wanganui), Cartner (Christchurch), Aldridge (Dunedin), and Ridling. Before the conference concluded a resolution was carried expressing regret at the duplication of courses in neighbouring schools, and suggesting to the department that fuller advantage should be taken of the specialised staffing and equipment of technical high schools. The suggestion was made that, in order to give effect to this, free railway passes should be made available to country school children living within thirty miles of any technical high school. It was decided to appoint a Recess Committee to consider the administration, of education in New Zealand.
