DESTRUCTIVE FIRE FAMOUS MONASTERY BURNT Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. BUCHAREST, May 8. The historic town of Carnpu Lung is on fii'e. The famous monastery and 100 houses have already been destroyed. There were distressing scones in the hospital, where scores of patients left their bods and fled into tho streets. A special train with four fire engines has been despatched from Bucharest. The rapid spread of the fire is attributed to drought. [Kimpolmig or Campu Lung is a town of Wallaohia, Rumania. It is tho capital of tho Muscel Department, and is near the Carpathians, on a branch railway line to Ploesti. It is the ancient capital of Wallachia and a modern health resort. It has a thirteenth century cathedral, monastery, and many churches. Near by are various Roman remains. The population is 10,000. During the Great War it was taken by the Russians from the Austrians on January 6, 1915, but was later evacuated.
