GENERAL COMMITTEE. Moving the adaption of the General Committee’s report, Cr MTndoc said that it was unfortunate that owing to the dictum of tho people owning tho right of way on the north side of the tepid baths’ building they had to incur expenditure in order to have their own right of way to bring in coal. The report was adopted. SALE OF TIMBER. Before moving the adoption of the Water Committee’s report Cr Begg asked leave to take back a clause referring to the arrangements that had been made for the sale of approximately two acres of pinus muricata in the Leith Valley plantations at 5s per hundred feet. This was agreed to, and the rest of the report was adopted without discussion. SOUTH DUNEDIN STREETS. Having moved tho adoption of the Works Committee’s report, Cr Marlow', in referring to representations made through Cr Jones, said that the condition of Surrey street would be dealt with at the next council meeting. As regards Cargill road, there were grounds for complaint, although it was a fact that during the last three years more money bad been spent on it than on any other street in the city. The council would try and give the people there temporary relief at once. During the year tho department would he able to make one side of the street as good as the other. The report was adopted. TRAMWAYS COMMITTEE. They had not been raised in order to reinstate 21- per cent, of the 10 per cent, cut imposed on council employees a short time ago. Cr Munro: These rates would have gone on any way. Cr Silverstone: Some people will never be convinced. The report was adopted. TENDERS.
