AUSTRALIAN FLOUR TAX
TO BE ABOLISHED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. ADELAIDE, May 9. (Received May 9, at 10.15 a.m.) Mr Lyons announced that the Hour tax imposed by the Federal Government would be abolished as from May 7 3!. [The Sydney 7 * Morning Herald,’ of December 30, said: “ It is learned that the sales tax of £4 5s per ton on Hour will be lifted early in the new year. In Ministerial circles it is admitted that the tax is distasteful to many members of the Federal Government, and unwelcome to the whole of the Government forces. For that reason the period of the tax was definitely limited to seven months, with a provision that' it should be lifted immediately the revenues warranted it.”]
