SPECTATOR STRUCK BY REFEREE UNION TAKES ACTION (Per United Press Association.] WAIROA, May 9. Wairoa created Rugby history last night when the union dealt with five players of one club—two seniors, one other player, two spectators, and a referee for offences on the field in various parts of the district on Saturday. It further had to consider the action of the referee in calling off a senior game at Mahia on account of tho misbehaviour of the spectators, who were speaking Maori, and urged the homo team to adopt dirty tactics. The referee’s knowledge of the Native tongue enabled him to realise what was being said, and as the visiting side were all pakehas he stopped the game for their protection. The union dealt severely with all offenders, even the referee, who was stood down for two Saturdays for striking a spectator who had used insulting remarks. «
