Ann Parrish, Mataunga, and Tom Mix lost their chances at the start, and Kotinga led out from Sister Mary, Triangle, and Paul Bingen, and there whs practically no change throughout the race. Kotinga was two and a-half lengths clear of Sister Mary at the home turn, and drew out to beat her by four lengths. Triangle was three lengths off third, and well clear of Orphan Bingen, who travelled fast over the last lap, Sea Gift, and Teviot Downs. As the field turned out of the straight the favourite broke. Sadie Axworthy led along, the back from Rollicking Wave, Compass, and Erin’s Chance, and into the last lap Sadie Axworthy was racing nearly two lengths clear of Erin’s Chance and Compass, with Rollicking Wave just in behind them. As they turned into the back Ronald Derby ran to the front and led Erin’s Chimes and Vologda along the back and across the top. Ronald Derby was first into the straight and stayed on to beat Vologda by nearly two lengths from Erin’s Chance, who beat Peter Mitchell by half a length. Compass and Rollicking Wave were next. Blue Mountain Queen and Nelson Pointer lost their chances at the start, and Prairie King lost some ground. Grey Girl was the smarfest to begin, but at the end of a furlong and a-haif Sunbloom had taken charge, and led Grey Girl, Mocast, Him, and Golden Direct into the final lap. As they raced along the back Sunbloom drew out a couple of lengths clear and showed the way into the straight from Mocast, Golden Dollar, Him, and Prairie King. Sunbloom was stopping over the final 50yds, and Mocast just got up to heat him a head. Prairie King was four lengths off third, half a length in front of Golden Direct, and Him, Lord Leslie, and Grey Girl were nest-. Entering the last lap Peter Locanda was half a length io front of Avernus, _ with Lilian Bond dropping back. Worthy Queen and Master Roy were next. Racing across the top Peter Locanda and Avernus were still in charge, with Master Roy, Great Author, and Ayrmont Chimes next. Immediately the straight was entered Avernus headed off Peter Locanda, and ran home an easy winner from Ayrmont Chimes by four, lengths, with Master Roy two lengths away.
