ORPHANS’ CLUB

OPENING NIGHT OF SEASON The Dunedin Orphans’ Club ushered in its 1934 season with a bright function in the St. Paul’s Schoolroom last evening. Tho president of the club (Bro. J. 'D. Cameron) was in tho chair, the mayor (tho Rev. E. T. Cox) also being present. Theio was a large _ attendance of members, and a very enjoy-' able evening was spent. The programme was a highly entertaining one, all the performers being warmly received. During tho evening the chairman presented a life membership badge to Bro. E. N. Falk, while the presentation of seniority badges was also made to the following members:—Thirty years, Bro. A. C.’ Hanlon ; twenty years—Bros. H. Henderson, C. H. Russell, A. Smith, A. B. Smith, IV. Downie Stewart, T. H. Thompson; ten years—Bros. H. Archbold, G. T. Browne. F. Goodwin, W. E. Earnshaw, R. Milne, W. B. M'Kechnio, E.W. Nowall. W. Stevenson, A. E Tilleyshort. S. F. Whitcombo, and H. F. Davie. The following new members wore initiated:—Messrs J. L. Johnston, J. Lee, J. Clark, D. J. Simpson, R. A. Wilkie, G. Burnett, and G. Stewart. The club orchestra, under the conductorship of Air J. Clark, provided a number of spirited and highly-appreci-ated selections, while vocal, instrumental, and elocutionary numbers were presented by Bros. C. R, Williamson, J. A. Clark, E. Ottroy, E. A. Bolwell, L. Borrow, E. Griffin, L. F. Holler, H. M. Eggers, J. A. Haggitt, and S. George.
