MEDAL AWARDED TO HEW ZEALANDERS [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, May 1. The Governor-General (Lord Bledisloe) has received advice that the King has been graciously pleased to approio of the grant to Mr Robert A. Falla, M.A. of the Auckland Institute and Museum, and Mr Ritchie G. Simmers, M.Sc., of the meteorological branch the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, of the Polar Medal in bronze, with a clasp, inscribed , Antarctic, 1929-1931,” in recognition of their services in the Antarctic exploration expedition under the leadership of Sir Douglas Mawson from 1929 to 1931. Mr Falla, who is thirty-two years of age is ornithologist at the Auckland War Memorial Museum. In the Antarctic Mr Falla acted as zoologist, specialising in the study of birds. During the expedition a large amount of new coastline was discovered and explored by the party.
