DUNEDIN GUN CLUB
Ideal weather conditions marked the opening shoot of the Dunedin Gun Club, held at Green Island grounds on Saturday. There was a good attendance of members and their friends, a high standard of shooting being maintained throughout. In an appropriate speech the president (Mr G. E. Turner) declared the season open. Three matches were fired, the winning scores being as follow: — Fifteen Bird Handicap (down the line). —A. Callaghan (15yds), 15 birds, 1; E. R- Graham, W. Elliott, W. ,1. Dippie (Balclutha), W. Morland, 14 birds, 2. / i , ' Niue Bird Handicap (down the line). —W. Elliott, 9 birds, 1; V. Walker (Outram), 2. Three Pair. Double Rise Quail Shoot. —W. >l. Dippie (Balclutha) 1, K; Begg, 2. G. E. Turner, Dr Greenslade, and the two prize-winners shot the possible, six birds, and in ;m exciting shoot-off K. Begg missed his twelfth bird, leaving W. •). Dippie the winner. The nest meeting of the club will be the Leeto Cup match, on March 24. This is im annual shoot open to all non-members of the club. UNIVERSITY SPORTS OXFORD BEATS CAMBRIDGE LONDON, March 10. Oxford University defeated Cam_ bridge in the athletic contest by 7 points to 4, including the mile, which Lovelock complacently dead-heated with his team mate, B. Leach, in 4min 23 3-ssec. The American, C. F. Stanwoocl (Oxonian) won the 120yds hurdles in 15 3-10 sec, the 220yds hurdles in 24 9-10 sec, and the higli jump with sft lOin, all of which he won last year, thereby achieving an unprecedented feat at university sports. The American Olympic representative, Halloweli (Oxonian), won the half-mile in linin 51 J-osee. Horsiall (Cambridge) won the long jump witla 22ft lOin, and A. Irfan, the first Turk to compete, won the weight putting with 42ft 6]in.
