W.C.T.U. MEETING
The first meeting for the year of the North-east Valley W.C.T.U. was held in the institute. There was a fair attendance of members. Miss A. Gray (president) was in the chair. Mrs Green (recently appointed evangelistic superintendent) led the devotional exercises. Correspondence was received from Miss Henderson (dominion secretary) re conference matters. The remits coming before conference and the present position of headquarters were discussed. Orders for the conference issues of the ‘ White Ribbon ’ were taken. Miss A. Gray mentioned that Mrs Don was still in bad health, and sympathy with her was expressed. She also referred to the departure of Mas Miller (vice-president) from Northeast Valley, and spoke of the amount of work Mrs Miller had done for the union. She was always willing to assist in any way and at any time. Several other members spoke in the same strain. Mrs Miller replied, saying that as she was going to Christchurch she would still bo connected with the W.C.T.U.. and hoped to be able to visit the Valley Union sometimes. The Treasurer reported on the financial result of the “ bring and buy sale.” A donation to the Now Zealand fund was allocated. The president and secretary were appointed delegates to the conference.
