LYNN-WALLS COMBINATION
ST. JAMES'S HILARIOUS ATTRACTION To-morrow marks the commencement at the St. James Theatre of one of those pictures that are eagerly awaited by theatregoers, for not only is ‘Thark ’ renowned as a play, but its success as a film is evidenced by the long season it has played in England, Australia, and New Zealand, while a three weeks’ run is just being completed at Christchurch. ‘ Thark ’ is the latest Ben Travers farce, and is filmed with Britain’s greatest pair of comedians, Ralph Lynn anti Tom Walls. It is undoubtedly a worthy successor to such grand comedies as ‘ Rookery Nook,’ ‘ Plunder,’ and ‘ A Night Like This.’ As a play, ‘ Thark ’ ran at the Aldwych Theatre for many moons, and Tom Walls’s characterisation of a middle-aged sportsman, rather top fond of pretty girls, proved much to the Ijking or the audiences, and is considered his finest role. In the film version his facial expressions in close-ups will certainly give filmgoers a laughter treat. Ralph Lynn plays his nephew, and when the two of tnem visit a country house, supposedly haunted, it doe's not require much imagination to appreciate the riot of comedy resultant. Mary Brough has her original stage role—she is a 1 way’s a joy—and Claude Hulbert and Robertson Hare add to the general merrymaking. This bringing together again of the Aldwych players has resulted in a delightfully funny picture, and has placed the great combination of funmakers in practically an unassailable position in the film world. ‘ Thark ’ is described as a tremendous triumph for British film producers, and as well as Tom .Walls, Ralph Lynn,- and their company. - .1 .-.Z'hfy''t'f '
