ASYLUM SCANDAL
NEWFOUNDLAND STORIES ST. JOHN’S, January 25.’ An astounding series of revelation* have been disclosed as a result of an investigation into the administration of Newfoundland’s central asylum for the insane. Investigators found these amply proved and disclosed that fearful conditions of laxity, both moral and monetary, pervaded the entire place. Inmates were left to die, with attendants seeing them only when ready for burial. While officials and nurses caroused openly, a nightwatchmah took up the job of administering medicine and caring for the sick patients.
