CRIMINAL SITTINGS
A HASEBY CASE The Supreme Court was engaged yesterday afternoon in hearing seven charges against Horace Acosta Martin of having carnal knowledge of two girls under sixteen years at Naseby on September 30 and other dates last year. Mr C. J. L. White appeared for th* accused, who pleaded not guilty. The Crown Prosecutor (Mr F. B. Adams) stated that the indictment comprised seven four of which were for the offence of indecent assault and three for the offence of carnal knowledge. The first three counts related to one girl, and the remaining four to- the other girl. Counsel proceeded to relate the facts upon which the Crown case rested. All witnesses, except the police witnesses, were ordered out of court. The first witness, mother of the girls, commenced her evidence at about 3.30 p.m. yesterday, and was still ia the box when the court adjourned for the day. Witness resumed her evidence this morning, being subject to a lengthy cross-examination by counsel for' the defence, v Evidence was given by the father or the girls, and the case was proceeding this afternoon.
