SEASONABLE WORK
SEE TO YOUR ROOF GUTTERS The annual spring-clean has its counterpart in the autumn. There are quite a number of jobs that are best done at this season, before winter sets in. Take the outside first, if you are wise you will make a point of seeing that the house gutters are clean throughout. Leaves and dirt can easily block them. This, of course, means possessing or borrowing a ladder; and when you are at it, take up the garden hose and, after removing the spray nozzle, give the gutters a good Hush from end to end. Have a look, also, at tlie heads of the downpipes, to see that they are all clear. Then, when the fiist winter rains begin to pour, you will not bo discomforted by the sight of stopped gutters and overflowing water And when you are up on the ladder take the opportunity to see whether any tiles or slates are loose. It there are any that have slipped or come off in a high wind, get them put in order, this is most important; otherwise you will have the rain in and find damp patches on the upstairs ceilings. See also that the air-bricks that ventilate the ground floor are not .topped up, and clean out the sink and hath galleys.
