ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS

STRUCK BY TREE. lan Donald M'Kenzie, a married man, lost his life as the result of an accident at his home, Whareama, about thirty miles from Masterton, last evening. The accident occurred at about 6 p.m. In company with four other men M'Kenzie was loading two gum tree trunks on to a lorry. There were several bales of wool already on the lorry, and the tree trunks were each about 45ft long. One tree was successfully loaded, and it was while the party was loading the other one that the accident occurred. The thin end of the tree was lifted on to the lorry on top of the wool, and one of the men climbed up to hold it in place. The other four, including M'Kenzie, remained on the ground to manoeuvre the heavy end of the log. They had almost succeeded in gettting the tree into the lorry when it suddenly slipped and rolled, striking M'Kenzie heavily in the chest and killing him.—Masterton Association message. A BOY KILLED. Fatal injuries were sustained by William Harvey Low, aged thirteen years, a son of Mr S. D. Low, a farmer of Cambridge, when he was thrown from a horse at his parent’s home yesterday afternoon. He was sent to the hospital with a fractured skull and died shortly after his admission.—Hamilton Pres* Association.
