ANOTHER CRISIS

RESIGNATION OF FRENCH CABINET EXPECTED SEVERAL MINISTERS RESIGN Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. PARIS, February 3. Another Cabinet crisis is threatened following the resignations of M. Pietri, M. Fabry (Minister of War), and M. Doussaint (Under-Secretary of Education), when the Government announced the transference of M. Chiappe from the Prefecture of Police to the Residency' Generalship at Morocco, while M. Thome has been appointed Administrator of the Comedie Francaise. Other changes include M. Pressard, who is M. Chautemps’s brother-in-law, from assistant public prosecutorship to a judgeship. All the changes are attributable to the Stavisky affair. The Socialists also demanded the dismissal of M. Chiappe owing to his handling of the Paris riots. M. Daladier offered M. Boncour and he accepted the Ministry of War. M. Palraade declined Finance, but the Government is so shaken that its resignation is expected. In any case its defeat in the Chamber is probable. M. Doumergue is already in Paris in readiness to accept the Premiership. M. Chiappe is reported to have refused the Moroccan post. He is suffering from sciatica and is unable to visit M. Daladier. but his successor, M. Bonnefoy Sibeur, has already taken office. During the Stavisky inquiry M. Pigaglio told the magistrates that Stavisky had planned to escape to Venezuela, where he expected he would not he sought, as the Government would do everything to avoid a big scandal. PORTFOLIOS FILLED PARIS, February 4. (Received February 5, ai 10 a.m.) M. Boncour and M. Marchandeau have accepted the respective portfolios of M. Fabry and M. Pietri. The Conservative Press almost entirely supports M. Chiappe, though the Socialist papers are delighted with his removal, calling him a plotter against the Government. His refusal of Morocco is due to his regarding it as a declaration of lack of confidence. M. CHIAPPE'S POSITION LONDON, February 4. (Received February 5, at 10 a.m.) The ‘ Sunday Graphic ’ says that M. Chiappe is one of the most feared men in France. His enemies say that he has been aiming at a political dictatorship, fostering street demonstrations in the interests of his own ends. The Government is perturbed by the Chiappe situation, and has called out the Republican Guards to ensure order.
