MORNIHGTON RELIEF WORKERS
A general meeting of the Mornington Unemployed Workers was held in the Methodist Hall on January 23. In the absence of the Mr Millar Laing was voted to the chair. The business of the meeting was mainly in connection with the secretary’s report and the presentation of the monthly balance-sheet, which showed the organisation to be on a satisfactory financial footing. An organising committee was set up with power to add to the number, and further additions .were made to the Gene-
ral Committee. In view of the national strike action, it was decided to call a general meeting of all men attached to Mornington relief groups to be held to-night at 8 o’clock. After general business had been dealt with the chairman introduced Mr Bryan O’Donnell, secretary of the Otago Labour Representation Committee, who delivered an address, at the close pf which the speaker was accorded a vote of thanks. The chairman intimated that it was intended to make these meetings as interesting and instructive as possible, and for this purpose the executive was making arrangements to present illustrated and other lectures, which it was hoped would prove to he of benefit to members.
