CENTRAL MISSION SOCIAL SERVICE The Central Mission social service department will shortly publish a full report on the annual camps which have been held at Company Bay, superintended by Sister Lenna. A considerable amount of work has been undertaken by the department since September 30, including the distribution of Christmas parcels and general relief to necessitous cases. The Rev.' L. B. Neale desires again to express appreciation of a monthly anonymous gift of £5. This donation comes regularly to hand, and there have been times when it would have been absolutely impossible to carry on the work but for it. The debit balance on the last four months’ work is £l5B. MEETING IN TRADES HALL A meeting of unemployed workers was held in the Trades Hall last Tuesday, Mr G. Maitland presiding over a good attendance of members and their wives. Correspondence was read from the National Executive, N.U.W.M., the .Acting Town Clerk, Dunedin, and the Otago Master Grocers’ Industrial Union of Employers. Organising reports were received from G., Dale and Z. Williams. It was decided to ask the City Council to receive a deputation at the next meeting in connection with relief workers being asked to work alongside permanent men at relief rates of pay. A national strike has been declared, to take effect on next Monday, and it was decided to hold a mass meeting of employed and unemployed on the Oval to-morrow afternoon. SOUTH DUNEDIH ASSOCIATION The South Dunedin Unemployed Association held its weekly dance this week in the South Dunedm Town Hall. A lengthy programme of dances (old time and modern) was greatly enjoyed, and the winners of the Monte Carlo were Miss Ramsay and Mr Jackson. Other prizes were won by Miss Pearce and Mr Casey, and Miss Nicholson and Mr A. Barbara. The Triumph Nine again supplied the music, and have been booked again for the dance next Tuesday. This will take the form of. a “ Mad-hatters’ ” dance. Patrons may appear in any kind of fancy or novelty hat, and there will be good prizes for the winning lady and gentleman. The admission miarge will be unchanged.
