FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 2. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) MAINTENANCE. .Richard Ashfield Collins was proceeded against by his wife in respect of an application for separation, maintenance, and guardianship orders. After evidence had been heard, the case was adjourned sine die, the magistrate givr ing instructions that inquiries should be made in regard to arrangements for the welfare of the children. ALLEGED THEFT. A man, whose name was suppressed by order of tho magistrate until the facts are gone into, was charged with, on or about October 26, 1933, at Invercargill, receiving the sum of £SO from a certain man, on terms requiring him to account for it to another party, and fraudulently failing to account for the money, thereby committing theft. Mr C. J. L. White appeared for the accused. Detective-sergeant _ Doyle said the f olice were now inquiring into the case, t was probable the total sum would run into hundreds of pounds. All the offences, it was alleged, were committed at Invercargill, except one at Christchurch. The accused had been travelling round the country selling shares. It was likely that the police investigations would take a considerable time, as the accused was giving them no assistance. The accused was remanded until February 12. Mr White asked for hail, stating that tho accused disputed his criminal liability. Bail was allowed in accused’s own recognisance of £IOO, with two sureties of £SO each, the accused to report twice daily to the police.
