The broadcasting of the Z class yacht races by 4YA Inst week was a good move. It broke away from the usual run of outdoor broadcasts, and amongst ■’listeners generally called, forth a great "deal of praise. The arrangements made • ■for the broadcast were.moat complete, a -special’ short wave, portable transmitter being used, and a special receiving station being established almost at the water’s edge.

fn radio, English is an international language. A test between a radio station in Japan and one in Berlin was recently carried out, and on this occasion both operators used English. English announcers are frequently heard from France, Holland, and America, while amateur operators the world over use English. , Correspondence from many’ foreign Countries is usually written in English.

Applicants for the position of announcer at 32R were;tested over the air this week. These included one from Nelson, whose test wastransmitted from Nelson over a land line. This is believed to be.the first, time that such a test has been made from a station. Uncle Ben of 4ZO wishes to acknowledge width thanks the receipt of ice cream from the Royal Ice Cream Company-for the children in the Dunedin Hospital. -
