Mrs H. E. Barrowclough, Auckland, is on a brief visit to Dunedin. Mr and Mrs H. D. Kerr and family returned during the week from a visit to Queenstown. Mr A. W. Martin, High street, returned on Wednesday from a visit to Stratford, where she was the guest of Airs J. Fredric. She was also the guest of Mrs Arthur Tyndall, Wellington, on her return journey. Air and Airs H. H. Bellhouse, of Cheshire, England, who have been touring in New Zealand, spent a few days in Dunedin as guests at Wain’s Hotel, before. leaving this morning en route for their home. Mrs F. Liggins, who has been visiting relatives in Dunedin, left to-day for the north, en route to her home in Perth.

The Misses Coreen and Alina Browne returned on Friday from Queenstown. The Rev. A. C. W. Standage, Airs Standage, and Mr I. W. Standage have returned to Dunedin after a holiday spent at Timaru. Mrs John Hagsptt, who went to Christchurch for the Cameron-Thomas wedding, is staying at the Hotel Clarendon. Mrs F. E, Whitton, of Timaru. is spending a holiday with her sister, Mrs D. A. Mac Lean, 15 Maheno street, Dunottar. Miss Noeline Parker, who returned during the week from Queenstown, lias gone on to Christchurch for a short holiday.

Mrs Marshall Macdonald will arrive on Monday from Waikouaiti, and will spend a few days as the guest of Mrs W. J. Crawford, Carroll street.

Aliss Helen M'Kenzie, Oaniaru, is spending a few days in town, and is a guest at “ Kai Rangi,” High street. • Airs Ray Ruddenklau, Oainaru, is in town for a few days, and is a guest at the City Hotel. Miss Shiela Ncilson, who has been holiday-making at the Alarlbqrotigh Sounds and in Wellington and Christchurch, has returned to Dunedin. The engagement is announced ol Leila, daughter of Air and Airs R, H. Ball, of Tainui, to Harold C., son of Air and Alr.s A. W. Dillon, of Pahia, Southland. Aliss Parker, of London, who has been the guest of Airs W. 11. Hayward for a few days, left on Thursday for the north, en route for her home. Aliss Parker has spent some time in visiting the scenic and tourist resorts of New Zealand, and is loud in her praises ol the Franz Josef Glacier and the Alilford track, from which she has just returned. Air F. Holmes, who has been manager of the Gore branch of the Para Rubber Company Ltd. for the last sixteen months, lias received notice ol transfer to the firm’s Dunedin branch, and arrived here to take up his new duties last Friday. The Alisses Garrett gave a party at their residence, Clyde on Monday in honour ol Airs John North, who, with her husband, has come from Auckland to live in Dunedin. Others present were Airs Ralph Sleigh, Alisses Nancy Horrocks and Ruth Wiles (Auckland), and Misses Lorraine Sidey, Betty Black, Betty Bell, Peggy Salmon, ancl Dorothy Secular. On the occasion of his impending departure Air F. Holmes, manager of the Gore branch of the Para Rubber Company Ltd., was met by a number of mends and presented with a token of esteem on Wednesday evening last. Several speakers referred to his many good qualities and the happy business relations which had existed among them while Air Holmes had been domiciled at Gore. On behalf of the gathering Air O. G. Scott asked the guest’s acceptance of a shaving outfit, with which went good wishes for his future prosperity.

Mrs Aubrey Stephens lias returned from a visit to Timuru. Mrs K. Hunter lias returned to Dunedin after a long holiday in the north. Mi ss Marion Croiv has returned from a visit to the country. Mrs Boyd Dunlop and her daughter are visiting Wellington. Madame Winnie Fraser, who has come to live in Dunedin, has taken up residence in a flat at No. 830 a High street. Mrs J. T. Paul and Miss Dorothy Paul have returned from a visit to Waimate. The engagement is announced of Mary Logan, second daughter of Mr and Mrs Peter Miller, Marton, to Stanley Roberts, eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. R, Divers, Pine Hill terrace, Dunedin.

Mrs John Leech returned on Thursday from a holiday trip to Sydney, Mrs A. Clark and Miss Dorothy Clark returned on Thursday from a visit to “ Te Kiteroa,” Waimate. Mr and Mrs S. Morris, of Cooma, N.S.W., who for some weeks have been the guests of their daughter, Mrs G. F. Tanner, Anderson’s Bay, have returned from a visit to Te Anau, and left for Wellington, en route to Sydney, on Thursday last.

Miss Pat Atkinson was a most successful competitor in the Highland and national dancing competitions held at the various Caledonian gatherings during the northern circuit, where she won sixteen firsts, four seconds, and one third prize. At Timaru she won the championship scan triubhais for girls under eighteen, this making her fourteenth championship—a record for dancers in the South Island. A very pleasant surprise party was taken by some of their friends to the home of Mr and Mrs M'Allan on Monday evening, prior to their departure for Auckland. Dancing was indulged in, and items were given by Mrs Seymour, Mrs Williams, and Miss Garthwaite, and Mr Mayo and Mr Seymour also gave a humorous sketch. Among those present were Mr and Mrs E. Seymour, Mr and Mrs F. Williams, Mr and Mrs N. Murie, and Misses 1. Garthwaite, A. Harris, C. Gillespie, and Messrs A. Bayliss, D. Davis, and C. Mayo. A most enjoyable evening was concluded by the company joining bands and singing ‘ Anld Lang Syne ’ and wishing Mr and Mrs M'Allan every success in their new home.

Professor Caldcnius, of Stockholm University, and Mrs Caldenius, who are visiting Dunedin, are guests at Leith House. Dunedin visitors to the While Star Hotel, Queenstown, during the past week included Mr and Mrs R. Nichol, Mr and Mrs J. Williams, Messrs S. A. Greenslade, I. R. Wilson, and L. Dawson. An engagement of interest in University circles is that of Coreen Eviral, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Ferris Browne, of Dunedin, and Dr Hedley Bellringer, youngest son of Air G. E. Bellringer and the late Mrs Bellringer, of New Plymouth. Dr Bellringer, who took his medical degree at the Otago University, has, for the last three years been house surgeon at the Auckland Hospital. Miss Browne is the artist attached to the medical staff of the Otago University, and a wellknown artist in her own rights.

Visiting Nurses. Misses K. Clark (Wellington), England, Atkinson, and Brown (Nelson), who will attend the nurses’ conference next week, will be guests at Leith House. Miss Vymer (Timaru) will stay at the Nurses’ Club, York place. Miss E. M'Callum (New Plymouth) will stay at 68 Belgrave crescent, Roslyn. Mrs Dement (Wellington) will be the guest of Miss Hancock, 91 Highcliff road. Miss Moore (Wellington) will be the guest of Mrs W. Ewing, 125 Cargill street. Miss Wade (New Plymouth) will stay at 7 Grey street.
