ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS

Health.—The following is the recipe you ask for: —Five ounces icing sugar, 2oz Epsom salts, 2oz tartaric acid, 2oz cream of tartar, 2oz carbonate of soda, 2oz magnesia. Let all the ingredients be very dry, put them through a fine sieve, and mix very thoroughly. Dose: One heaped teaspoon in a tumbler of cold water.

Inquirer.—The following makes a delicious preserve:—Twelve bananas, 41b rhubarb, two lemons, 61b sugar. Peel and cut bananas into small pieces of equal size and weight. Cut rhubarb into small pieces. Put the rhubarb into the preserving pan with 21b of sugar and the juice of two lemons, boil up for ten minutes, then add bananas and rest of sugar. Stir carefully until it boils, skim frequently, and boil until it jells when tried on a saucer, about half an hour. Bottle immediately.
