NEW SOUTH WALES WIDE AREA AFFECTED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright,SYDNEY, February 1. (Received February 1, at 11.20 a.m.V Earth tremors were experienced over, 'a wide area in this State yesterday,The most severe was at Gunning.' There were shocks also at Kangava Valley, Canberra, and Goulburn. Ther* were over 100 subterranean explosions at Gunning, and they were more severe than those on Tuesday. The residents were increasingly alarmed. The walls of several houses cracked, and plaster fell from others. A severe tremor was felt at Goulburn simultaneously with a big shock at Gunning. Father O’Leary, of the Riverview Observatory, says: “ Terrifying as the phenomenon may be to the residents of Gunning, _ they can _ take consolation that nothing serious is likely to 'happen there. The trouble is purely of a local character.”
