EVICTION OF RELIEF. WORKER
INTERESTED GATHERING BUT NO DEMONSTRATION [Per United Press Association.] WANGANUI, February 1. A section of Wanganui’s population witnessed the eviction of a relief worker, E. J. Read, his wife, and six children, whose ages are from two to twelve years, from a residence on the Somme Parade, owned by the Wanganui City Council. Read had been'at tenant for two years and eight months, and his arrears in rent were £lO3. During that period he paid only 12s in' rent, maintaining that his relief money, was not sufficient to keep- his family.There was no sign of- a demonstration. Two relief workers addressed the gathering and particularly requested that there should be no demonstration. The furniture was transported by the court bailiff and deposited under a tree on the river hank.
