GIRL GUIDES' CAMP
Situated in'a delightful bush setting, red.and lying well to the sun, the provincial Girl Guides’ camp at Evansdalo is proving a great success. Upwards of fifty 1 Guides and Guiders are under canvas under the supervision of Miss H. M. Ewing. Miss Vida Barron, and Miss Blaekraore have also been in attendance, and Dr Chapman is the resident health officer. Many visitors motored out during the week-end, and some impressions of the camp by one of these may be interesting. One is directed to the camp by a large white sign on which the title “ Girl Guides Camp ” lias been worked out in the ever-present “ bid-a-bid.” and so even a pest lias been turned to good account. On reaching the camp one meets with well-pitched tents provided with all manner of useful gadgets, improvised and made by the Guides; for instance, stands on which to place suit cases have been made from manuka, and only those who have done much camping will be 'able to appreciate the joy of these. Racks to keep shoes off the ground and coat hangers have been made from willow wands and majuika, while towel rails and racks for toilet appliances adorn the outside of _ each tent. The camp letter box immediately caugbt the eye. The work of tho Guides, it was woven from manuka twigs and fashioned like a bird’s nest. At the back of the camning area is a little knoll surrounded by trees, and this proves ideal for camp fire ceremonies and as a general'meeting place. The health conditionsand food arrangements are excellent, and reflect great credit on. those .who have given the time and energy to drawing up the splendid programme. Sun-tanned skins and happy faces meet the visitor every, where, and good health and happiness radiate from the campers.
