INDUSTRIAL WORKERS

The Provisional Organising Committee of Industrial Workers met in the Trades Hall on Monday evening in accordance with the resolution carried at the mass meeting last week. Mr P. Neilson and Mr F, O’Rorke were elected president and secretary respectively. It was decided that the committee_ should approach' all industrial organisations and relief organisations to seek .universal co-operation. A strong Propaganda, Organising, and Relief Committee was appointed, with power to add. It was agreed to interview the mayor regarding a public meeting in the Town Hall to protest against the conditions prevailing amongst relief workers. The president and secretary were requested to draft a telegram to be sent to the Prime Minister (Hon. G, W. Forbes) requesting him to meet a deputation from the committee on his arrivel at Dunedin, with a view to outlining the conditions prevailing amongst the unemployed. Messrs J. Gilchrist, B. O’Donnell, and Z. Williams were appointed the deputation. It was agreed that the secretary apply for a permit to take up a street collection to assist the wires and children of Gisborne relief workers.- The president intimated that the next meeting would be held on Monday evening in the Trades Hall. Since the meeting the telegram was sent to the Prime Minister, who has sent the following reply:—“Your telegram received. Would be glad if you would kindly get in touch with the members of Parliament for your district to arrange deputation.”
