OBITUARY
CAPTAIN E. R. NICHOLAS A prominent man on the Dunedin waterfront and in aquatic sports,. Captain Evan Robert Nicholas, died in’ -Christchurch on Tuesday. As a master mariner, Captain Nicholas was widely known in New Zealand ports. After many years’ service with the Union Steam Ship Company, ha came ashore a.s stevedore_ for Messrs John Mill and Co. He resided at Macandrew Bay, where his main _ interest was boating. He was a familiar figure at all the regattas on the harbour, before he was taken ill some months ago. His death was referred to by the President (Mr A. W. Hazlewood) at the meeting of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association last night.; Captain Nicholas represented the North-east Harbour Boating Club on' the association, but had bden compelled to resign on account of ill-health. The delegates stood in silence as a sign of respect, and the secretary was instructed to forward letters of condolence to the relatives and to the Northeast Harbour Club, of which Captain Nicholas was commodore.
