CITY VALUATIONS

LIST FOR THE YEAR At last night’s meeting of the City Council the acting town clerk (Mr R. A. Johnston 7 presented the following statement bearing on tthe valuation list:— “ I have received from the city valuer the valuation list for the year 1934-35 in terms of the Rating Act. “ The rateable value is therein shown as £1,103,779, or a decrease of £6,604 as compared with last year’s figures. This decrease is ascertained after allowing for the increase due to new buildings and other factors which amount in the aggregate to £5,132. The actual decrease therefore totals £11,636. A comparison with the past two years is as under;— Decrease 1932-33 ... £45,963 Decrease 1933-34 ... 211,300 Decrease 1934-35 ... 6,504 “These figures would indicate that we are now approaching stability in the matter of valuation readjustments due to the economic conditions. “ The year’s figures are, of course, subject to any alterations that may result at the Assessment Court.’’.
