BOY AS TRIBAL CHIEF
DECISION BY WOMEN'S VOTES MONTREAL, January 3. A' ten-year-old boy, little Joe TwoAxe, has been chosen as the new chief of the Wolf Clan, one of seven Indian tribes living on the Government reservation at Caughnawa, near Montreal. The squaws and maidens of the clan elected the chief, the braves having nothing to ; say in the matter, in accordance with tribal custom. Henceforth Joe Two-Axe-, will be known as Sawatis-sarahoe-wanah. He is the son of grand chief Dominick Teharif-ho-ken, and was chosen because he was a_ pure-blooded _ Indian, one of the principal requisites for chieftainship.
