SIXTEEN DEATHS IN JAPAN TOKIO, December 29. Sixteen persons died and six became blind through drinking faked “ shochu,” which properly should be made from sweet potatoes and resembles gin. The poison liquor had been made from methyl alcohol, mixed with water, and placed on the market under forged labels by two men, who made it in their own homes.
