BOARD OF DIRECTORS The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors ol tiie Young Aleu’s Christian Association was held on Tuesday night, Air J. L. Salinond being in the chair. Air C. J. Darraeott presented the financial statements, and the budget figures were viewed with satisfaction.. The General Secretary (Air J. H. Aliller) reported that the work of tiie association had been very satisfactory in all departments, and the full spirit among members continued to bo pronounced. . The gymnasium display proved to be a most attractive enterla' iment, but unfortunately financial results were not up to expectations. The young men’s division had very definitely made its presence felt, and was working along sound association lines. In the residential section there were increased receipts displayed. The Optimists’ Club continued to bo a very useful association activity, with increased attendances and fine spirit: The four cricket teams now playing under the association’s auspices had commenced competition matches. The baths continued to he well patronised, and tiie economies effected in control and fuel were having their result. Residents' religions services continued to be well attended. Speakers had been the Rev. Allen Stcvoly, the general secretary, and the Rev. Percy Cooke. Mr C. AA 7 . Postgate (physical director) reported that ini the gymnasium the moiC’i had been a busy one, and had brought to a close the class season proper, although some of the senior sections might stilt carry on into November. With the advent of the lighter evenings and wanner weather the attendance in some of the classes had naturally fallen off, but special practice sessions in connection with the annual display had kept certain groups more or less consistently together. The class enrolments stood at the same figure as that of the previous month—namely, business men 54, seniors 52. younger men 30, ladies CO, business boys 25. secondary school boys 22. primary school boys 25, married ladies 12, boys (under 12) 28— total, 308. Eight boys’ division games periods wore conducted (attendance 116). Although the wanner weather had had an effect on the attendance of unemployed at the gymnastic periods, a good number had put in an appearance at the usual morning sessions for unemployed youths. Approximately jOO youths had
taken advantage of the gymnasium privileges during the year. Air Al C. Henderson stated, on behalf of the boys’ work director, that matters were well forward for the annual camp at Christmas, held at Whare Flat. It had been stated that tins camp was provided for only Y.Af.C.A. members, whereas it was open to every boy in Dunedin and the country.
