ARMY EXERCISES IN BELGIUM BRUSSELS, November 17. Fifty British officers are at present stationed at Middelkerke, and are engaged in tactical exercises. _ They are under the command of Major-general W. G. S. Dobbie, commandant of the School of Military Engineering at Chatham, who is accompanied by Major Do la P. Garforth, bis secretary. The area of the exercises is beyond Nieuport. It is understood that these exercises have been authorised by the Belgian Government, and are on the lines of a scheme drawn up in 1917 by the British War Office with a view to military operations on the Belgian coast at this spot Middelkerke, a town in West Flanders, was occupied by the Germans in November, 1914.
