ROYAL MALE CHOIR

The force of popularity, so deserved of such a delightful combination as the Royal Dunedin Mule Choir, a musical body, of which its host of admirers is justly proud, was again happily demonstrated last night when Saturday’s concert was repeated to a capacity house. The smoothness and balance of the choir’s work, the clean attack, and the improvement in balance (due to several additions to the ranks of the tenors) were made full use of by Dr Galway, The part song, ‘ Christmas Eve.’ was perhaps the most finely rendered number of the evening, although the soloist. Miss Dorothy Sligo, was slightly overshadowed by the choir- in the concluding passages. . The dynamic power and singular beauty of Chopin’s exquisite ‘ Scherzo in B Flat Minor ’ were given full expression by that accomplished pianisle, Mrs H. C. Campbell, who undoubtedly ranks as one of the most versatile pianists in Dunedin. Miss Sligo was beard in several enjoyable solos, in which a clarity of enunciation and an understanding of the underlying spirit gave their renderings an added note of artistry. Mr R. A. Mitchell was beard in an effective rendering of ‘ There is a Flower That Bloometh,’ from Wallace’s ‘ Maritana,’ wliile a pleasant presentation of 1 Lowland Sen ’ was given by Mr R. I. Douglas. His encore, ‘ M'Gregors’ Gathering,’ was a much more suitable effort. A "quartet consisting of Messrs 11. A Mitchell. R. W. Dunbar, G. Salmond. nnd J. A Hnggitt, also provided two items. Mr J. H Aldridge was the accompanist.
