PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP OTAGO RIDER ESTABLISHES NEW RECORD [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, October 15. The North Island professional championship race, from Cambridge to Papakura. resulted in a win for W. Hills (Auckland) off 39min. His riding time was 4b 3min 31scc. The other placings are: W. Hansen (Wbakatane), 14inin, 3h Gsce. 2; G. Green (Wbakatane), 26min, 3b 52min 7sec, 3; H. Lewis (Waharoa). 36min, 4h Cmin 31sec, 4. Fastest time went to A. Ralston (Otago), ser, who covered the course in 3b 34min 20see, establishing a new record.

The previous record was 3h 49mm 57 l-ssee, established by W. Harcourt in 1929.

FIFTY-MILE RAGE

NEW PLYMOUTH, October 15. The North Island fifty miles road championship was won by R. Yardley (New Plymouth) in a race to Pungarehu and back. There were twenty-six competitors. L. Heatley (Urenui) was first homo, but Yardley made the fastest time—2h 2min 53 l-ssec.

AMATEUR ROAD RACE

WELLINGTON, October 16. The 100 miles amateur road championship race was held on Saturday over a “ round-the-gorges ” course. The raco was won by E. Jones (Christchurch) off 35min, with R. W. Marks (35min) second, L. Fever (28min) third, and R. J. Kennedy (24mm) fourth.

Fastest time was made by F. J. Grose, who completed the course in 4h 33min 26sec. Riding from scratch, he finished in tenth place. J. L. Richards, also from scratch, made second fastest time, finishing eight minutes behind Grose.

OTAGO CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING The second annual meeting of the Otago Athletic and Cycling Club was held at the Bungalow Tea Rooms, the president (Mr A. J. Haub) presiding over an attendance of about forty members. . In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the President spoke of the progress the club had made in the past year. Its membership had increased, and financially the club was on a good footing. The interest taken in the club by members and officers in general had a lot to do with the success attained. The club has held numerous sports meetings during the track season, and eighteen road races had been held. Good entries had been received for all events, as high as thirty, three starters coming forward in one race. For the Otago fifty-mile championship riders from Otago, and Canterbury came to Dunedin. The visiting riders, L. Thomas and Leh. Hill, an ex-Australian champion, commented favourably on tho manner in which the race was controlled. The honours of the day wore won by a club member, J. Kennedy, who put up a record for time, and also secured second prize, being beaten by half a wheel. ’Track honours were won by A. Ralston, who also won the Traill Memorial Cup. The president also paid a tribute to the secretary (Mr A. C. E. Wills), whose name had been well to the fore in . cycling activities in Dunedin for tfce last twelve years. Tho motion was carried. Hay; reporting secretaries—Messrs R. Wil-son-Pyne, A. K. Jackson, and T. Brosnan; committee—Messrs D. Heenan, B. Gordon, H. Marshall, I. M'Queen, G. Morrison, H. Cooper, A. Ralston, P. Beale; Ladies’ Committee —Mrs Lewis, Mrs Marshall, Miss G. Brown, Mrs Hay; auditor; Mr W. R. M'Phersoli; sub-committee to draft new rules— Messrs W. R. M'Pherson. T. Brosnan, R, Wilson-Pyne, A. Mr Hay spoke on behalf of the active members, stating that they would compete at one meeting free of stakes to help tho club, and Mr M'Queen returned thanks on behalf of the club.

Willoughby beat King by inches* with Anderson half a wheel away third. Fastest time went to W. P. Stuart (unplaced), scratch, 6h 27min 56sec. Opperman punctured a tyre, and even then put up the second fastest time ; No fewer than 232 cyclists started in,the event. E. Milliken, the brilliant amateur cyclist, recorded the fastest time in the Colac to Melbourne (100 miles) race—--3h 51 min 44sec. i
